Dishwasher vent not opening anymore, how to fix?
I have a two year old Frigidaire dishwasher that leaves the dishes very wet after washing. There used to be a tremendous amount of steam coming from vent on door, now there is none throughout the wash and dry cycles. I am using rinse aid and heat dry, still no steam. Does that mean vent is not opening and how would you fix it.
The vent is normally located at the top of the dishwasher door. Check to see that nothing is blocking the vent. The vent have an upward baffle on the inside so that water cannot spray out. Check to see if something is lodged in the vents.
Some dishwashers have a mechanical device inside the door to open and close the vent. If the vent is stuck closed, the door has to be dismantled.
Check the settings on the dishwasher, using heated drying should produce lots of vapor. Check to see if the heating elements is coming on during the dry cycle. You can check this if you have a plate warming setting. Set it on the plate warming setting and wait about 5 minutes, then check to see if it is warm inside the dishwasher. If it is warm, then your element is working.
If the element is working during the dry cycle, then the vent is clogged or broken.
Another problem that you may have is that the water is not draining completely. Check the dishwasher at the end of the cycle, if there is water in the bottom of the dishwasher, then that may be inhibiting the drying.
From your description, I think you have a mechanical problem and that you need to disassemble the dishwasher door, if you are not confident about this, call a service technician.
