Opinions on vacuum brands?
I am doing a survey online, and am supposed to get many people's opinions about which of these brands is best, worst, and details of why.
LG
Bissell
Dyson
Hoover
Miele
Kenmore
Oreck
Other
I have heard certain brands have problems with the cords shorting out, and things like this. I looking into buying a new vacuum, so any info would be very helpful! Thanks.
I am sorry that my vacuum is not on your list. I had sold many of the named vacuums for an un-named retailer and experienced a few of these brands over my lifetime. But for the past 10 years I have used a Rainbow vacuum, so I don't feel I would be qualified to comment on the quality of vacuums that are in the marketplace today.
I do want to point out something and talk about my vacuum. I use the Rainbow, which is not available in major retail locations, but can be found online or at a local distributor. I use this vacuum because there is 100% certainty that the dust and allergens are trapped and won't get back into the air. Even though a lot of those machines you listed have hepa filters, the one thing they all do is have air leaving the machine. With the Rainbow the air is forced into a bowl of water and then the air is spun out of that. No water touches the carpet, but the dirt is trapped in the water. It is the concept that when it rains outside the rain refreshes and traps the dust that we breathe, making everything fresh. I wish I could answer your specific question on those brands, but as for me, I love my Rainbow and would have no other vacuum...although I would like to have an upright model instead of pulling a canister and of course that the Rainbow price is way too much, but I have had it for 10 years with no complaints have had NO need for repairs and NO purchase of vacuum cleaner bags or filters...with the added feature that I can run it all night as an air purifier. Which after all, the point of vacuuming is to remove dirt, not to displace a certain percentage from one spot into the air, creating rework...(As a kid I could never figure out why to dust AFTER vacuuming, now I know most all vacuums just transfer the dust from carpet back into the air.)
Sorry I could not help on your specific research. Do consider the COST of USE...Each of those brands have bags, with a certain capacity, which has to be replaced in X amount of time, that is an extra cost, how much do those bags cost and how often will you replace them. Also the same for the filters that come with them, if you are going to operate the vacuum you need to consider the cost of operation for the life of the machine too. Also consider do you have stairs and how much it weighs to lug it up and down those stairs and how easy is using the attachments, are they stored on the vacuum and easy to locate and won't fall off when you bump it against something. I guess I can at least toss out a few things to keep in mind. All the best to your research and good luck, I will be interested to see what others have to say about the brands also.
