Swinging Hybrid And Long Irons
Al Balding, one of the greatest professionals and a truly fine player, regards the Long Irons as his "bread and butter" clubs.
He ever said, "There's something wrong with your swing if you can't hit the long irons," also once observed. "The way they stretch the holes out in tournament competition, it seems like we're always pumping at them with Long Irons." Actually, not many amateur golfers are very good at hitting these golf irons consistently well. The long irons are considered to be the hardest golf clubs in the bag to hit consistently. The reason is they have the flattest club heads and the longest club shafts of all the irons.
When you hit a long iron in your new set of Titleist 2010 AP2 Irons, you have to make very good contact with the golf ball at the correct point in the golf swing, and the club head has to be pointing in the right direction. If any of these things do not happen correctly, the result is likely to be a bad shot. It could result in a really bad shot and that means the ball could find woods or water, or if you are lucky, sand. If you hit the ball thin, this means you hit the top of your Titleist Pro V1x golf ball. The result of hitting the ball thin is a low shot that could slice right or hook left. The distance might not be very far off, but the chances of hitting the ball straight and getting the right distance is very slim. If you hit the ball fat with a long iron, you are likely to have the club head stick in the ground behind the ball. The result will be a chink of turf propelling the ball instead of the club head. This will result in a big lack of distance, and probably also result in the ball going right or left in addition to short. I.
The difference between long irons and hybrid golf clubs is the forgiveness factor of the hybrids. If you hit the ball fat with your hybrid you will probably still lose distance on your shot, but the shot will probably go straight. The reason is in the club head of the hybrid. The wider club head provides a larger sweet spot so the ball has a much greater chance of staying straight. If you hit the shot fat, the hybrid club will not stick in the ground like a long iron. The Callaway X Hybrid will skip into the ball. The result is likely to be a lower but straight shot. The hybrid will normally take trouble right and left out of the picture. If you can hit your shots straight, even if they are not the desired distance, you can take strokes off your game even without hitting every shot perfectly.
Although long irons and hybrids have so many differences in hitting, with great much practice, you can be a great player of the modern era excels with hitting them.

Sometimes I get a good shot if I move the ball away a little bit but this seems like I'm reaching.
The reason you connect shaft to ball is that your hands have traveled away from the body during the swing, they moved closer to the ball. Several issues can cause this. But, this is a swing path problem. An easy fix is to go to the range. place two balls on the ground, one on your target line with the other on the outside of your target line. Balls should touch each other. ( addressing the inside ball, you should be able to touch the other ball with the toe of your club). Hit the inside ball without touching the outside ball. This trains your swing path to stay on track coming in on an inside swing path. Excellent drill for several issues.
